Worthy Brothers,

First, I would like to invite everyone to see an incredible exhibit which is on display in the St. Stephen Catholic Church Activity Center in New Boston.  There, St. Maximillian Kolbe Council #6549 is hosting the "Miracles of the Eucharist" exhibit which was created by the Vatican and has been traveling around the world since 2005.  This exhibition is a huge collection of the many Eucharistic miracles which have occurred all over the world.  I have personally seen this display myself and it is truly fascinating, awesome and spiritually uplifting.  Viewing hours of the exhibit are:
     Friday June 6 -   3 pm to 8 pm
     Saturday June 7 - 12 noon to 7 pm
     Sunday June 8 -   8:30 am to 4:30 pm
I strongly encourage everyone to take this opportunity to view the "Miracles of the Eucharist"

Secondly, the June General Business Meeting for Council #1266 will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at 7 pm in hall 2 of the Monroe K of C Hall.  Final nominations and election of officers will take place at this meeting.
Preceding the meeting, a rosary will be prayed in the Blessed Michael J McGivney Meeting Room starting at 6:30 pm.  All Knights are welcome to attend.

Worthy Brother,

Happy Memorial Day everyone!

As we enjoy this day of leisure, let us not forget the meaning of this holiday.  Pray for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.  Let us not forget those who have died so that we may enjoy the liberties we have today.  God Bless all of you who have served our country in any of the armed forces.  We are all truly indebted to you.  Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!  And God Bless the United States of America!

This Wednesday, May 28th, there will be a special mass at 6:30 PM in St. Mary's Church honoring Archbishop Weisenburger.  All are invited and welcome to attend.  Please come to welcome our new Archbishop and show him the support of our Catholic community.

MEMORIAL DAY PRAYER:

Gracious God, on this Memorial Day weekend, we remember and give thanks for those who have given their lives in the service of our country. When the need was greatest, they stepped forward and did their duty to defend the freedoms that we enjoy and to win the same for others.

O God, you yourself have taught us that no love is greater than that which gives itself for another. These honored dead gave the most precious gift they had, life itself, for loved ones and neighbors, for comrades and country, and for us.

Help us to honor their memory by caring for the family members they have left behind, by ensuring that their wounded comrades are properly cared for by being watchful caretakers of the freedoms for which they gave their lives, and by demanding that no other young men and women follow them to a soldier’s grave unless the reason is worthy and the cause is just.

Holy One, help us to remember that freedom is not free. There are times when its cost is indeed dear. Never let us forget those who paid so terrible a price to ensure that freedom would be our legacy.

Though their names may fade with the passing of generations, may we never forget what they have done. Help us to be worthy of their sacrifice. Amen.

Worthy Brothers,

A few important items:

The Monroe Walk for Life is coming up soon - May 24th beginning at St. Mary Catholic Central High School at 10 am.  By now, you have seen this event advertised in your church bulletin or elsewhere.  This is a very important event as we stand and walk for the protection of the unborn and together pray that women will choose life instead of abortion.  Although the legal battle has been lost, we must now work hard to win the hearts of these women in need.  Please join us in support of Life - one of the founding principles of the Knights of Columbus.  As a sponsor of this event, we need Knights to help with traffic safety and also to provide information at a table in the gymnasium before and after the walk.

There will be a Eucharistic Procession on Sunday June 22 starting from St. John Catholic Church at 12:45. Knights are needed to carry the canopy over the Monstrance and to march together in the procession.  Please join us as we walk in unity, both physically and spiritually, following our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Monroe Knights of Columbus will again be providing and serving lunch to the special needs children at Holiday Camp on Wednesday, July 23 starting at 10:30 AM.  We will need plenty of help cooking hot dogs and serving lunch to the children.  This is truly a rewarding experience!  Mark your calendars and please consider helping us help these kids.

Click here to see the May edition of the Monroe K of C Parish Roundtable newsletter.  As always, do all you can to support each parish of our Parish Community.

Finally, we have chosen a standard shirt for our council - a navy-blue polo with the Monroe K of C logo on the left breast.  The shirt is polyester, but cotton is also available upon request.  We are getting these shirts though All-Heart Sports Apparel at a cost of $33 each.  If you are interested in a shirt, please text me your name, phone number and shirt size.  I will be making a group order within the next 2 weeks.

Worthy Brothers,

A very special thank you to brothers Tom Friar, Jim Christensen, John Patrick and Dennis Miller for their wonderful help at the 34th Annual Special Olympics Games at Jefferson High School this past Friday.  What a rewarding experience it was to work with these special athletes!  Thank you, guys!

A quick reminder we will be having our monthly General Business Meeting this Wednesday, May 14, in Hall 2 starting at 7:00 pm.  Nominations of officers for the upcoming 2025-26 fraternal year will be accepted at the meeting.  The meeting will be preceded by a rosary in the McGivney Meeting room at 6:30 pm.

The Building Association will also be meeting this Wednesday immediately following the General Business Meeting at 8:00 pm.

The Annual Business Meeting of the Building Association, at which time election of officers will take place, will be held on June 11, 2025 starting at 8 :00 pm.

Worthy Brothers,

There are a few events coming up quickly this month.

This Wednesday, May 7th, we will be having a Fraternal Benefits Night starting at 6:30 PM.  Pizza will be served along with a video presentation on the 2025 Economic Outlook.  This will prove to be a very informative presentation as well as an opportunity to get together with your fellow Knights.  Wives, girlfriends, neighbors and friends are also invited.  Please join us for this informative evening and a free meal.

On Friday morning May 9th, the Special Olympics will be coming to Jefferson High School.  This year our council will again be supervising the Standing Broad Jump competition.  This is truly a very rewarding experience as we work with these special kids!  We need volunteers to step up and help.  If you are interested in being a part of this important event, please call or text me. What a great way to spend a Saturday!

Wednesday May 14th will be our regularly scheduled General Business Meeting.  A rosary will be said in the McGivney Meeting Room at 6:30 PM followed by the General Meeting at 7 PM.  The Building Association will meet immediately following the General Business Meeting.  All Knights are invited and encouraged to attend.

Finally, as we mourn the passing of Pope Francis, let us pray not only for his eternal rest and passage into our Father's kingdom, but pray also for the cardinals - that the Lord will guide them as they chose our new spiritual leader and head of our church.

"The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of God stands forever."

Worthy Brothers,

A huge "Thank You" to all who helped make the 2025 Desert Meal such a tremendous success!  What a great night it was hearing the stories of our future priests and spiritual leaders.  It was my honor to hand them a check for $10,000 to go toward their "Pilgrimage of the Saints" which they will be taking in just a few short weeks. When all of the fund-raising events and donations are sorted out from the evening, we will send them a check for even more. Thank you again to all who volunteered that evening and to those who gave to this important cause.  God Bless you all!

A reminder that, as per my notification last month, the Monroe K of C General Business Meeting has been moved forward   to April 2.  There will be a Rosary at 5:30 pm then an exemplification at 6:00 pm (we have 4 candidates for admission into our council).  The General Business Meeting will start at 7:00 pm.
Click Here for the meeting minutes from the 3-12-2025 General Meeting.  Please review prior to the meeting and bring any corrections or omissions.

And He would answer and say to them, "The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none: and he who has food is to do likewise."

Worthy Brothers,

WOW!  What a fantastic event we had at Newport's Fireman's Park last Saturday, March 15th with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed building.   The build was sponsored by the Monroe Knights of Columbus, the Men's Prayer Breakfast and SMCC.  The number of volunteers who came to help, and the amount of money raised by these 3 sponsors was nothing short of amazing!  84 beds were constructed in approximately 4 hours' time.   These beds will now be distributed to children throughout Monroe County who have been sleeping on the floor and in need of a bed of their own.  Thank you so much to all who participated in, or donated to, this incredible event.  God Bless you all!

A quick reminder of the upcoming Desert Meal Dinner this Saturday, March 29th.  This event is to support our seminarians of Sacred Heart        Major Seminary - our future priests.  Supporting the priesthood is one of the main reasons for our order.  It is what we do, gentlemen.  Please plan to attend or if you are unable to attend, please consider your Lenten almsgiving to, in part, support these young men who are devoting their life to spreading the Word of God.

Also, we need more lottery tickets for the Lotto Tree which will go into the silent auction at the dinner on Saturday.  Please drop them off at the lounge.  If you are able to donate a prize for the silent auction or table raffle, that would be greatly appreciated!

Worthy Brothers,

First of all, Thank You to all those who volunteered to help at, or partook in, the K of C Fish Dinner yesterday.       I don't think I say thank enough to each and every one of you.  The dinner was once again very successful as we served just shy of 200 meals.   Money raised from the weekly Fish Frys goes to help support both the hall itself and functions of the Knights of Columbus.  Thank you for your support!

Attached below is the March 2025 issue of the Monroe Family of Parishes Roundtable Newsletter.  As always, I encourage everyone to support not only your individual parish, but also all of our Parish Families.  We are all in this together.

There will be a rosary said on Wednesday at 5:30 pm before the General Business Meeting at 6 pm.  Please meet in the McGivney Meeting Room next to the lounge for the Rosary.

We're looking for volunteers to help set up halls 1 & 2 for the "Jewish Roots of Holy Week" program this Wednesday.  Please meet at 3 pm in the hall if you are able to help.  Thank you in advance.

Worthy Brothers,

The next General Business meeting of the Monroe Knights of Columbus will be on Wednesday March 12, 2025.  Due to the program "The Jewish Roots of Holy Week" sponsored by the Monroe Family of Parishes which will be taking place in halls 1 & 2 that same day, the K of C meeting will be moved into the lounge.  The time of the meeting will also be moved forward to 6 pm instead of 7 pm.  The Building Association meeting will begin immediately following the general meeting.

Hopefully this will not cause any inconvenience for anyone but will allow everyone to partake in both events.

Worthy Brothers,

Lady Jennifer and I would like to wish each of you, and your families, a very special and meaningful Ash Wednesday!  May this day remind you of God's love and help prepare you for your journey through this Lenten season.

Starting this Friday the Monroe Knights of Columbus will be having our delicious Fish Fry-Days at the K of C hall throughout Lent - every Friday from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.  Volunteers are needed to make this fundraiser a success.

A reminder also of the Annual Desert Meal Dinner which will be on Saturday, March 29th.  Please buy your tickets early and come support our future priests.

"And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truely, I say to you, they have received their reward.  But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."
